Our good friend Frankie (Art of Aliens) has been making images reflecting their experience of being neurodivergent. We share them sometimes as they are often mental health related, but wanted to put them all in one place so we can refer back to them and for people to access.

“Tanjiro” is a character from the popular Demon Slayer franchise. I created this piece as a joke to show how frustrating it is when you constantly find individuals who just don’t want to understand or even acknowledge the differences in society.
“We are the plague” is seen as very controversial, due to recent events however I created this to illuminate the underlying issues of humanity. Wearing a mask is tiring, so is bullying and negativity, surely if those masks could be stripped perhaps a common ground could be met?
“Spiralling out of control” was created as I overcame some huge personal challenges, it often feels like the whole world is out to get you, but there is always a hand to help you through.
“Caged but still breathing” is self-explanatory, Our bodies still function despite feeling trapped and unempowered by external factors. It is a symbol of hope.
“Night Warrior” shows the Japanese Kitsune leaping over a moon, this is a mischievous character, powerful and always on the lookout for another game to play. The beauty of the Kitsune conquers the night and I often feel comforted by the imperfect perfection of this idea.
Frankie told us: “These tapes were created as a way to present various moods. I used a spectrum of colours, luminosity and design to help me personally show how I was feeling. For example Cassette 2 is intense and vivid, yet also cracked. I created this during an autistic burnout. I felt as though I was radiating all my energy to social situations and work, yet there were cracks forming and I was near to implosion. Having these tapes has allowed me to express parts of myself I didn’t recognise initially. I hope they do the same for others too.”
