Thy Listless Heart is a doom metal project by Simon Bibby. Simon helped us to get to bloodstock this year and works the welfare tent there, it was great to work alongside him and learn more about his music. The track ‘The Precipice’ has just been released by Thy Listless Heart (on Hammerheart Records) and has a theme of suicide prevention. We are proud to be partnering with Thy Listless Heart and our good friends Metal for Life NI to hopefully continue having conversations about this stuff. Check out the video here (starring Becky who was also a good bloodstock welfare buddy to us!)
Simon shared with us some of his thoughts about writing The Precipice:
“I suppose issues relating to mental health have pretty much always been part of my life – my own demons or the demons of others. I have spent my working life predominantly supporting people who are on the edge both socially and emotionally – the outcasts of society – those who have committed unspeakable acts and those who have had those same acts visited upon themselves…. or both.
Family life has also been, shall we say an interesting melting pot for many years. I am father to children through birth, adoption and fostering, and it would seem that difficulties with mental health don’t favour a particular bloodline. As a family we have learned along the way what it is to live with trauma, attachment disorder, neurodivergence, childhood bereavement and OCD to name a few.
So….as a result of the above, and the dark corners of my own brain, the music and lyrics I write are often about loss and pain and struggle. Maybe it’s a way of processing the sheer weight of suffering. Maybe it’s my way of searching for a glimmer of light in the darkness. Whatever it is, I feel it deeply, and that’s why I wrote ‘The Precipice’.”
Thy Listless Heart release the full album, including The Precipice, in November
