Given to Live

8 years ago Tom set up the organisation Given to Live, who provide once in a lifetime gig experiences for people who have faced disadvantage or hardship. Many of these gigs are rock and metal, and the organisation is very in-line with our principles about the power of music and community. It was a privilege to talk to Tom about his own experiences of facing challenges with his mental health due to trauma, and he shares some of his recovery story in this video. This one covers the role of addiction, mental health stigma, feeling suicidal, trauma and abuse (therefore this is a content warning for these things). Tom also talks about the inspiration for Given to Live and tells us more about it, including some of the wonderful stories of the people the organisation has helped.

Given to Live need to fundraise to be able to keep doing what they do, and this includes both the gig experiences and other support for the people they help such as therapy. For their latest fundraiser, Tom is cycling all the way to Amsterdam for Pearl Jam on 24th July. He is inviting people to help him along on the last leg, by doing 10k (wherever they are) walking, running, wheeling or anything really (pogo??) to raise money for Given to Live. Donators are put into a draw for some really decent goodies including Paul Harries prints and Corey Taylor vinyl*. We are pleased to support them and a few of us will be getting on board on 24th, we hope some of you might also be interested. If you do, corpse paint of course is welcome, and please let us know as well as Given to Live. Tom has done a little video about it here.

*contact us or Given to Live for more terms and conditions on the giveaway
